An institution of sorts given it is one of the few original pieces of Patpong that is still in existence. More restaurant than beer bar, The Madrid is known as being a low hassle hangout with decent grub. Pizza, burgers, breakfast and Thai food. Some would swear by it. The prices are reasonable and the decor is way old school.

the menu is pretty diverse and caters to pretty much every taste - different types of sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, thai food, german food, american junk food. I’ve never owned a restaurant, but I think this menu diversity is part of the problem. turnover never seems that great, so how fresh can the ingredients be especially as they have to be able to supply such a huge variety on their menu? best to stick to drinks and conversation and head elsewhere for grub.

Tucked away near the Silom Road end of Patpong 1 lies the Madrid Bar - named by Bangkok Eyes as Bangkok’s oldest Expat Night Entertainment Venue.
Open since 1969, Madrid was opened during Patpong’s infancy, and predates Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza by a long way.
No gogo poles here - the Madrid opened as a lounge and restaurant, and hasn’t changed much in the 38 years it’s now been open.
Some of the female staff are cuter than others, and I’m pretty sure you could barfine them, but it’s safe to say that they’re not that reason people come here.
They’re here because Madrid Bar is an oasis of calm in the tempest that is Patpong. And because they make the best pizza in Bangkok. Make mine a Madrid Special, please.

However, when in Patpong you take what you can get and which is why I don’t give it a single star. Relative to the rest of Patpong it’s nice spot.

The menu is big, they have specials and the booths are just too funky.
Just like I might take people to Safari to see the old patpong I would take people for a bit to eat in madrid. Service is good but sometimes the ladies working the place are a little cranky but maybe that just adds to the place.

Best pizza I’ve ever had in Thailand, or anywhere outside of Italy in fact.
Recommended the place to a friend a while back - he had the same experience as Werewolf, below. So I guess they can have off-days. I dragged him back there a week or two later, which he wasn’t too keen on, but soon changed his tune when the pizza arrived. He’s a regular now.
I’ve eaten there countless times, breakfast lunch and dinner, and have never had a bad meal. The pizza’s the highlight of the menu for me though. Cheap tasty food and beer, friendly service, and like Young Penfold says, the calm in the eye of the storm that is Patpong!
They’ve been around for 39 years or something now, so they must be doing something right.

A quite narrow bar with booth seating down the side and was a pleasant suprised that they served big bottles of chang aswell.
The pizza was better then a sunday morning wank. Real italian style thin and crispy, juicy fresh ingredients and was prepared in record time. A lot better then a lot of the ‘gourmet’ pizza you get in BKK for 3times the price elsewhere, and better then anything ive eaten at ‘high end’ pizza places in UK
Madrid has a really chilled atmosphere which is a welcome change to the rest of Patpong, however the music is fairly quiet to fit with the relaxed vibe, so I had to sit through my meal listening to the 2 american yuppies chat cringeworthy holidaymaker broken english (in a french accent?!?!?!?!) to there hostesses at the booth next to me.
For a huge pizza, a gutful of changs and a few 7ups its came to around 700-800baht which is a steal. The hostesses i saw on offer were a bit tatty but you dont come to Madrid for T&A. Great place to start a night in the pong. Calm before the storm

I remember saying to myself ‘cracking food Grommit’ and deciding to eat here on a regular basis while I was in BKK. Of course I didn’t because I didn’t go back to Patpong…. however, if you are in the area and want to try succulent flesh of a different order you can do worse than pop in here.
